Shawn Porter Recalls Facing Spence And Crawford – ‘He’s The Real Deal’

Shawn Porter discussed his respective bouts with Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford as the latter duo face each other on July 29th, 2023.

The two fighters will compete for the undisputed welterweight championship of the world, knowing that a win makes them the first to do so in the four-belt era.

And one man who knows both men best is Porter. The former world champion faced Spence all the way back in 2019. Porter put in an impressive performance despite coming second best via a split-decision loss.

Much in the same way, Porter’s performance against Crawford was equally commendable before the actual stoppage.

When they faced off in 2021, Porter was ahead on all the scorecards. However, Crawford stopped Porter in the tenth round, as the latter announced his retirement sometime after.

With that being said, this is what Porter had to say about the two fighters.

Comments

“Errol’s better in 2023 than he was in 2019 when we fought. He’s matured – even from a standpoint of just knowing who he is as a fighter. He’s much stronger. Much more everything than he was when we fought.

“In 2019 when I fought Errol it was actually the opposite [to how impressed I was when I fought Crawford]. I wasn’t impressed when I fought Errol. Coming out of the ring with Terence it was, He’s the real deal – he’s everything I thought he was, and I just witnessed it first hand,” Porter
