Shawn Porter Says Canelo Vs. Charlo Could Happen On Cinco De Mayo

Shawn Porter expects Canelo Alvarez to fight Jermall Charlo on Cinco de Mayo.

Those comments would be disappointing since boxing fans are waiting for a clash between David Benavidez and Alvarez. The Mexican Monster is the WBC mandatory as he beat Demetrius Andrade with a stoppage win after round six. However, the WBC has yet to call the mandatory, which is why Canelo has been linked with alternatives. Fellow Mexican Jaime Munguia, who is undefeated, has been mentioned as a possible opponent. Despite having fought at 168, Munguia has only had two fights, making him relatively new to the weight class. But given that Munguia has agreed to face John Ryder on January 27th, 2024, Charlo could be the next opponent.

“Canelo has been a pro for almost 20 years. That’s two careers for a lot of us. I think that’s miles. I kind of think Jermall fought himself into a fight with Canelo. I don’t know what the business was for Canelo, but I kind of think it was for Canelo, but I kind of think it was little brother [Jermell], bigger brother [Jermall],” Porter stated

Charlo returned to the ring after more than two years out with an impressive win over Jose Benavidez Jr., But given that Charlo is not a 168-pounder, the fight may not be competitive as the boxer’s brother, Jermell Charlo, had shown that when he moved up from 154 to face the Mexican. However, with Alvarez having two fights left on his PBC deal, a fight against Benavidez on Mexican Independence Day could play out. Time will tell.
