Shevchenko Defends Dana White vs. Cyborg
UFC President Dana White and Cris Cyborg did not have the best relationship, and the pair have continued to take shots at one another even after Cyborg’s UFC release. But Valentina Shevchenko has had a polar opposite of a relationship with her boss.
Cyborg’s UFC contract expired following her win over Felicia Spencer at UFC 240, and the UFC president formally released her during an interview posted to the UFC’s YouTube channel. Cyborg uploaded a video (now deleted) to her own YouTube channel that showed her interacting with White backstage following the event.
The video misquoted White, which Cyborg claims was an error made by her production team. White, meanwhile, called the move “one of the dirtiest things.”
Shevchenko, who has trained with Cyborg, hasn’t been paying attention to the situation, as she’s been focused on defending her UFC women’s flyweight title against Liz Carmouche this weekend. But she says her relationship with White has been a more positive one.
“With the situation she had with Dana White recently, I haven’t been paying a lot of attention to what happened between them,” Shevchenko said. “But I can say that from what I know of Dana White, he’s a very good person; he’s a very polite and kind person. Since very early on, he’s always been worried about the fighters. If he says, ‘I will take care of you,’ you can be sure he will take care of you because he’s trying to make life for the fighters in the UFC good.
“[He wants UFC fighters] to have everything because UFC is the biggest organization of mixed-martial arts in the world. That’s not just him, that’s everyone that’s involved in the UFC; their treatment of fighters is unique — I haven’t received this [treatment] in any other organization.”
