Shields-Gabriels Nets 410K Viewers
Claressa Shields return to Showtime would be a successful one, as her unanimous decision victory over Hanna Gabriels would draw a peak of 410,000 viewers to Showtime.
Their 10 round battle for the vacant IBF and WBA middleweight titles, would draw an average audience of 376,000 viewers on Showtime, beating the ratings of the live broadcast of Anthony Joshua’s win over Joseph Parker in March.
Joshua’s win against Parker, which aired in the afternoon on the cable network, featured a peak audience of 379,000 viewers and an average of 346,000 viewers. The replay later in the day would draw 480,000 peak viewers and an average of 430,000.
Shields’ win on Friday night was also a boost over her last appearance, a dominant 10 round win over Tori Nelson, which featured 320,000 peak viewers and an average of 241,000 viewers in January.
Next up is an anticipated middleweight unification fight with the WBC/WBO champion Christina Hammer, who stormed the ring to call out Shields, following the U.S. Olympian’s win.
Hammer would win her own battle against Nelson earlier in the evening, via unanimous decision.
