Shields-Hammer Gained 369K Viewers For Showtime

While it was the highest watched “ShoBox” broadcast of 2019, Claressa Shields history making win over Christina Hammer would fall short of her last appearance on the network.

Shields, who would become the first undisputed women’s middleweight champion of the four belt era, with a unanimous decision win over Christina Hammer, would draw less viewers than her June 22nd win over Hanna Gabriels.

Shields-Hammer would draw a peak audience of 369,000 total viewers for their 10-round title fight, with the average audience coming to 339,000 viewers.

In comparison, a similar 10-round, unanimous decision win over Gabriels had a peak audience of 410,000 viewers and an average audience of 376,000 viewers in June of 2018, drawing higher ratings than a  Anthony Joshua-Joseph Parker heavyweight title unification fight in April.

While the Gabriels’ fight was on a Friday night at 10pm, Shields-Hammer ran into a litany of competition from DAZN’s broadcast of Jaime Munguia’s controversial win over Dennis Hogan, the undercard of Peter Qullin and Caleb Truax’s ill-faited FS1 main event, as well as the opening night of the NBA playoffs and early round NHL playoff games.
