Shields Powers Past Crews-Dezurn; Retains Undisputed Heavyweight Title

Three-weight undisputed champion Claressa Shields extended her undefeated record to 18-0 by beating Franchon Crews-Dezurn in a one-sided unanimous decision to retain her Undisputed Heavyweight Title: 100-90 (x3).

It was the second time Shields beat Crews-Dezurn, having gotten the better of her in 2016. The victory was sweeter as Shields did it in front of her home crowd at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The 38-year-old Crews-Dezurn attempted to use her strength early, pressing the action in the opening two rounds. However, Shields remained composed, using her superior footwork to stay out of danger. The third round proved to be the turning point.

The champion landed a series of thunderous combinations that shook Crews-Dezurn, shifting the momentum permanently in Shields’ favor. As the rounds progressed, the age and stamina difference became apparent. While Crews-Dezurn began to tire under the relentless pace, the 30-year-old Shields never slowed down, as she powered to victory.
