Shields v. Habazin Live Results
With plenty of bad blood between them, the rivalry between Claressa Shields and Ivana Habazin will culminate tonight in Atlantic City, New Jersey, as the WBC and WBO female junior middleweight titles are on the line.
Taking place inside the Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City, This fight was originally scheduled to take place in October, but the bout was postponed after Habazin’s (20-3) trainer was attacked at the weigh-ins. Shields’ (9-0) brother was arrested and charged for the alleged assault.
After becoming the first American boxer to win consecutive Olympic gold medals, Shields turned pro and quickly picked up more gold, becoming the WBC and IBF female super middleweight champion in August 2017. She then became the WBA and IBF female middleweight champion in June 2018 and added the WBC crown that November.
Shields defeated Christina Hammer in April to become the undisputed middleweight champion, becoming the seventh boxer ever to hold all four major world titles of a weight class in boxing. With a win tonight in her 10th pro fight, she will become the fastest boxer ever to win world titles in three weight classes — breaking the record of 12 fights set by Vasyl Lomachenko and Kosei Tanaka.
Habazin claimed the IBF female welterweight title in March 2014 but lost the title in an undisputed title fight with Cecilia Braekhus that September. After an unsuccessful challenge of Mikaela Lauren for the IBF super welterweight title in 2016, Habazin held the IBO female middleweight championship in 2018.
The co-main event will be Jaron Ennis taking on Bakhtiyar Eyubov. Starting off the Showtime card is an important matchup featuring Alicia Napoleon-Espinosa v. Elin Cederros for the WBA and IBF Super Middleweight Championships. A win by Napoleon-Espinosa can result in a match against Shields.
