Shields Vs. Cameron 160-Lb. Title Fight In The Works

Fresh off unifying the 154-pound division against Mikaela Mayer (22-3, 5 KOs), Chantelle Cameron (23-1, 8 KOs) says talks are progressing for a fight with Claressa Shields (19-0, 4 KOs), bypassing an immediate Mayer rematch to pursue one of the biggest fights available in women’s boxing.

“My promoters MVP is actually already talking to Claressa Shields’ team because she said she wanted to fight me. I said I’d love that opportunity, so MVP has gotten straight on to her team. There have been phone calls since my fight at the weekend, so the ball is rolling, and it’s moving quite quickly,” Cameron said.

Cameron added the WBA and WBC super welterweight titles to her WBO belt with a unanimous-decision victory over Mayer on August 29.
Weight is one issue already resolved, with Cameron saying she is willing to move up to 160 pounds to make the fight happen.

“I do know from talks that she won’t come lower than 160. But it’s Claressa Shields, and I’m happy to accept that. I wouldn’t put on any weight; it would make me slow and sluggish, so I’d just give that weight away,” Cameron said.

Shields currently holds the WBA and WBC middleweight titles after stopping Kaye Scott on August 15.
A fight with Shields would likely represent the biggest opportunity of Cameron’s career, with the former undisputed junior welterweight champion stepping up to face one of the most accomplished fighters in women’s boxing.
