Showtime Scraps Plans For Dec. 9 PPV in Favor Of Dec. 16 Finale featuring David Morrell Jr.
PBC and Showtime have scrapped any plans for a show on December 9th, 2023, by confirming that an event will take place on December 16th, 2023, instead.
Reports indicated that an event was set to go ahead at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, with suggestions that Floyd Mayweather was potentially having an exhibition. Mikey Garcia was linked with the fight, only for that not to materialise. At the same time, the rumored fights between Eimantas Stanionis vs. Keith Thurman and Erislandy Lara vs. Danny Garcia are not expected to appear on the December 16th, 2023, card which will take place at the Armory, Minneapolis. The card has not been officially confirmed, but David Morrell Jr. is being tapped to defend his WBA ‘Regular’ super middleweight title in the main event.

And now, according to Keith Idec of Boxing Scene, that has been confirmed. The news marks what will be Showtime’s final broadcast of the year after reports that they will pull out of boxing in 2024. The bout will boost Morrell Jr.’s profile on the biggest stage, as a victory could improve the undefeated fighter’s attempts at facing Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez later down the line.
The news also means that a potential Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao rematch is now off the table. Pacman had reportedly informed the media that a bout against Mayweather would happen in December, as Showtime and RIZN were in the conversation about televising the fight. Although that may have been the case, if the bout does go ahead later down the line, a fight on New Year’s Eve could follow. Either way, boxing fans will no doubt be keeping an eye on how things pan out moving forward.
