Showtime Reportedly Working On Dec. 9 PPV Featuring Mayweather, Thurman & Danny Garcia

Boxing fans could see Floyd Mayweather Jr. once again following reports that an exhibition is being considered on Showtime for December 9th, 2023.

Mayweather’s last exhibition was against John Gotti III, which ended in a brawl breaking out between the two fighters once the referee called off the fight. Since then, there have been question marks over whether Mayweather could still command a fanbase who would turn up to see him in those events. However, reports stress that Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman could have their own fights on the card.

The news of the fight also comes after concerns about Showtime’s future in the sport. Stephen Espinoza could not rule out whether the network would still be in boxing next year. However, having Mayweather on the card is unlikely to generate the interest needed. Despite being one of the greatest boxers ever, Mayweather’s time at the highest level is over. And at the age of 46, there is only so much that fans can get behind his exhibitions. After all, Mayweather has not hidden his desire for doing the exhibitions, which is partly due to the money involved.

In addition, the fight would also clash with Regis Prograis’ bout against Devin Haney. And at a time when there are an increasing number of promoters/networks competing, this could be another test of Showtime’s pulling power. The social media response, however, suggested a lack of enthusiasm towards this prospective card.
