Silva vs. Brunson Set for UFC 208
Anderson Silva will be having his first MMA fight in New York at UFC 208, as a bout between him and Derek Brunson has been signed on for the event.
After 17 consecutive victories, all but his first in the UFC, the former middleweight champion is winless in his last five — four losses and one victory turned into a no contest. He last fought at UFC 200 back in July, taking a fight on 48 hours notice to step up and face light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. Cormier won via unanimous decision.
Brunson also comes into this bout on a loss — he was defeated by Robert Whittaker in 4:07 at a UFC Fight Night in Australia. This defeat snapped a five-fight win streak for him. On a key note, however, Brunson last four victories have all come by KO or TKO in the first round, and he is 7-2 since coming to the UFC from Strikeforce.
UFC 208 will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on February 11. The main event will see Holly Holm face Germaine de Randamie to determine the first-ever UFC women’s featherweight champion. It’s the third event the UFC has held in New York since the state legalized MMA last year.
Silva vs. Brunson is expected, as of now, to be the co-main event.
