Sky Sports Box Office Outbids DAZN For Oleksandr Usyk-Anthony Joshua Rematch
Sky Sports won back a small, but potentially lucrative, battle on Thursday.
Sky Sports Box Office won the rights to air Anthony Joshua’s rematch against unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk on August 20, which is set for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A number of British outlets reported that DAZN was outbid
Joshua recently left Sky Sports to join DAZN for a five-year, 10-fight deal that could be worth about $100 million. The Saudi government is pay $98 million to host the fight and were able to put the broadcast rights to the fight up for bidding, according to Ring TV.
Joshua was with Sky Sports for the entirety of his pro career. His promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, was with Sky for nine years.
Joshua was still with Sky when Usyk upset him by unanimous decision in front of a hometown crowd on September 25, 2021.
For the rematch, they can earn a potential $50 million each from the global pay-per-view.
The Brit is 2-2 in his last four fights while Usyk is undefeated in his 19 fights. After becoming the IBF, WBA and WBO champion, Usyk also became the third cruiserweight champion to earn a heavyweight title.
