Smith Pummels Eggington, Stops Him in 5
Former WBO super welterweight champion Liam Smith took control at the start of his fight with Sam Eggington and didn’t look back, scoring a fifth-round stoppage.
The fight headlined a Matchroom Boxing card that took place at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England, and aired on DAZN.
While Eggington had his moments and landed some shots in the first couple of rounds, Smith seemed to just outclass Egginton with a variety of shots in close. Smith displayed some nice defense in the third round, covering up well and displaying good footwork as to not allowing Eggington’s shots to land clean. His punches continued to land as well, swelling up Eggington’s right eye.

Smith continued to land in the fourth, picking Eggington apart with a mix of small shots and power punches on the inside, while getting his back to the ropes. Eggington tried his best to fight back, but the strength wasn’t there.
By the middle of the fifth, Egginton seemed to have nothing left and was just trying to survive, as Smith got Eggington against the ropes again, and then in a corner, as Egginton continued to eat shots and have his eye damaged until the referee stopped the fight.
This win marked Smith’s first bout since losing a WBO title fight with Jaime Munguia last July, which snapped a three-fight win streak for Smith. Eggington, meanwhile, has now lost two of his last three.
