Sor Rungvisai To Return To Action In July

After it was a foregone conclusion that WBC super flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai would not defend his title on the upcoming Superfly 3 HBO card later this year, it was a mystery figuring out when he would fight next.

Well that mystery has been solved as it was revealed that Sor Rungvisai will fight Young Gil Bae on July 21 in Sor Rungvisai’s native country of Thailand. The fight will be a non-title fight, however, and will be contested at bantamweight instead of super flyweight. The fight ensures Sor Rungvisai stays busy in the ring after a period of personal problems.

Sor Rungvisai broke up with his longtime girlfriend and then later split with his manager whom he spent several years working with. During that period, Sor Rungvisai appeared as if he would be going to defend his title against Juan Francisco Estrada later this year in a rematch, but Sor Rungvisai canceled the rematch which was not officially announced.

The WBC champion has not fought since retaining his title against Estrada back in February on the second Superfly event on HBO. Sor Rungvisai first won the title last year with a decision win over Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez.

By the time Bae steps into the ring, it would be almost 15 months to the day of his last fight. Bae, who sports a 28-6-2 record, previously challenged for the WBC minimumweight title back in 2015, but was knocked out by Wanheng Menayothin in that fight.
