Spence Describes Thurman as ‘Corny’

WBC Welterweight Champion Shawn Porter has been claiming IBF champ Errol Spence Jr. dislikes him;  however, Spence says he is indifferent on Porter and has more a dislike of WBA (Super) champ Keith Thurman.

The welterweight division is seen as one of the best, if not the most, talented in boxing today. Entering 2019, questions remained on when, if ever, unification bouts would be set up. One will be seen later this year when Spence and Porter do battle, while Thurman and WBA (Regular) champ Manny Pacquiao do battle in two weeks.

In recent interviews, Porter has claimed there’s an intense dislike Spence has of him. During a recent appearance on the official podcast of Premier Boxing Champions, however, Spence claimed Porter’s words are not true. He says he doesn’t care so much for Porter; however, he holds a strong dislike for Thurman.

“I dislike Keith Thurman more than I dislike [Porter],” Spence said. “I really don’t, you know, care anything about Shawn Porter or what he has going, or anything like that. So, I don’t know where he got that from — that I’m jealous of him, when I fought on pay-per-view. He hasn’t even fought on pay-per-view yet, so I mean, I don’t know.”

Spence says Thurman has been reluctant to fight him, but he hopes an opportunity for the two to throw down can happen if he beats Porter later this year and Thurman defeats Pacquiao this month. Even then, Spence feels a fight with Thurman isn’t a guarantee because he feels Thurman doesn’t want to fight him.

“He’s been a guy I’ve been wanting to fight for a long time,” Spence said. “Even when I was like 14-0, I wanted to fight him. And plus, I just think he’s corny overall. He’s just a corny individual.

“Keith still don’t mention my name, really. He keeps saying that we’re gonna fight late 2020.”
