Spence Jr. Vs. Tim Tszyu Tense Final Face-Off, Fulton Jr. Misses Weight
This Saturday, Errol Spence (28-1) and Tim Tszyu (27-3) will square off in Sydney, Australia, and on Friday the pair successfully weighed in for the main event bout and shared their final face-off.
Spence’s last fight back in 2023 was his undisputed matchup with Terence Crawford, who punished the former unified world champion throughout the bout, ultimately finishing things in the ninth. It has now been almost three full years since his last time in the ring.
Tszyu is fresh off his second straight victory in April since falling short of achieving the WBC super welterweight title in an enormous opportunity last year versus Sebastian Fundora, who finished the Australian in the seventh round.
Both main event competitors weighed in at exactly 159-pounds on Friday, making the headlining bout official for Saturday.
While Spence and Tszyu both had no issues on the scale, former world champion Stephen Fulton Jr. had significant trouble, coming in nine pounds heavy for his co-main event super featherweight title eliminator match with Liam Wilson. This is now the second straight match in which Fulton has come in overweight, missing by two pounds last year when he faced O’Shaquie Foster.
Fulton could still fight even though he missed weight against Foster, losing by unanimous decision in the end, but in this weekend’s case his fight was completely cancelled because of the significant difference. Following the troubles on the scale, Fulton took part in a brief media scrum, where he explained the missed weight goal, as well as confirmed his plans to move up to the lightweight division.
