It appears that Danny Garcia will get a crack at gold once again. According to The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger, Garcia is expected to face off against IBF and WBC Welterweight Champion Errol Spence Jr. A date for the fight is not yet known. The Athletic went on to say that the fight was originally meant to take place back in January.

Garcia (36-2) is 3-2 in his last five fights. Following a loss to Shawn Porter for the WBC Welterweight Title back in 2018, he beat Adrian Granados via TKO in April 2019. He then beat Ivan Redkach via unanimous decision back in January. Garcia has also fought for super-welterweight gold before, losing to Keith Thurman for the WBA Super-Welterweight Title.

The 30-year-old Spence (26-0) turned professional in 2012. He beat Kell Brook back in 2017 to win the IBF Title. In a Fight of the Year contender in September, “The Truth” won the WBC Welterweight Title from Porter.

There were rumors of the two facing off before Spence ended up in a car accident back in October. Charged with a DUI, Spence wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. He suffered cuts to his face and damage to his teeth. Appearing ready to go, Spence wants to have bouts that will have him grow as a fighter.

Garcia is a former WBC and WBA Light-Welterweight Champion, as well as a WBC Welterweight Champion. Eventually, Garcia is looking to move up to 154. His desire to win one more title within the welterweight division may lead him to his goal of Spence.
