Spence Vs. Crawford Talks Reportedly Resume-Will It Happen?

Negotiations have reportedly resumed for a potential fight between undefeated welterweight champions Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford for an undisputed bout.

The last time Crawford fought was in December, and he won by stopping David Avanesyan in six rounds.

On the other hand, Spence’s most recent fight was in April last year where he won by a 10th-round TKO against Yordenis Ugas.

The two fighters have been in discussions for some time now, with both sides being unable to agree on the terms.

The primary reason for the failure to agree to a bout had been the absence of the promoters coming together.

Crawford, for his part, had a one-fight deal with BLK Prime to fight Avanesyan following the intial breakdown in talks with the PBC.

Thereafter, reports suggested that Crawford and Spence had allegedly been offered $25 million for the fight.

But now, as per a Dallas News report, discussions are taking place for a potential match between them.

“Contract talks have restarted for an undisputed welterweight world title fight between Errol Spence and Terence Crawford,” Dallas News

Just prior to this, according to a report by ESPN’s Mike Coppinger, Spence and Crawford had been communicating with each other through phone calls in an attempt to hash things out.

But in case the fight does not materialize, Spence, who is 33 years old, might compete against Keith Thurman on June 17th, 2022.

The fight is long overdue, especially given the state of boxing. Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s failure to agree to an undisputed fight was a huge disappointment.

But given Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia’s upcoming fight, there is a chance this could finally happen. Time will tell.
