Spence Would Fight Thurman Before WBC Winner
While Errol Spence Jr’s plan is to fight one more time in 2018, and then go against the winner of the Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter WBC welterweight fight, and then Keith Thurman, plans can change.
Spence would be more than willing to face the undefeated IBF welterweight champion before whoever takes the WBC title later this year, but that all depends on Thurman.
“If he want it,” Spence said. “I mean, that’s on Keith. Keith gotta come back, man. He’ll probably have like two fights [before me] or get injured again. Training camp’s rough for the kid, man. Rough for the kid.”
Spence making light of Thurman’s myriad of injuries since defeating Danny Garcia in March of 2017. First an elbow surgery, and then a training injury which sidelined his plans of a May 19th return.
The injuries would lead to Thurman relinquishing the WBC title, while Garcia and Porter set up for a potential title fight in August at Barclays Center.
