Stevenson, Gonzalez Reach Deal for Title Fight

Shakur Stevenson and Joet Gonzalez came to terms on a deal on the evening of Sept. 6 for their ordered fight for the vacant WBO featherweight championship.

The agreement avoids a purse bid for the bout, which was scheduled for next week at the lobby of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The bout was ordered by the WBO for its vacant title after Oscar Valdez surrendered the belt, electing to move up to super featherweight.

Stevenson is unbeaten at 12-0, last defeating Alberto Guevara by third-round knockout in July. Gonzalez is also undefeated at 23-0, knocking out Manuel Avila on the same card. Just two of Gonzalez’s last 10 fights have gone the distance.

Stevenson vs. Gonzalez will be the main event of a Top Rank Boxing card on Oct. 26 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada.
