Stevenson Responds To Latest Fight Rumors
WBO Junior Welterweight Champion Shakur Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) shut down reports of a showdown with WBO Welterweight Champion Devin Haney (33-0, 15 KOs).
Reports suggested the two champions were in preliminary talks for a summer clash, but Stevenson labeled the news as “cap”—slang for a lie. A major sticking point cited in the rumors was the division. Haney is the current WBO Welterweight Champion, while Stevenson recently captured the WBO Junior Welterweight title from Teofimo Lopez on January 31. Stevenson has been adamant about not moving to 147 lbs, insisting that anyone at welterweight must “meet him in the middle,” and agree to a possible rehydration clause. Stevenson has now stated there have been no talks with anyone from his camp.
“I know fans like to get excited, and they could play with y’all heads and manipulate y’all easily, but that rumor is cap for the 2nd time. I haven’t heard one word about that, idk what they tryna cover up or disguise, but for me and my team we haven’t heard s***,” Shakur said
