Stevenson vs. Yoshino: Preview and Watch Info
On April 8th, 2023, Shakur Stevenson will make his debut in the lightweight division against undefeated Japanese fighter Shuichiro Yoshino.
Stevenson’s record of 19-0 has resulted in him becoming a two-weight champion. In 2019, he won the WBO featherweight title by beating Joet Gonzalez.
He then quickly went up in weight and won the WBO super featherweight title by stopping Jamel Herring in the tenth round. Victory over Oscar Valdez also followed.
Thereafter, he faced Robson Conceicao. He overcame Conceicao via a unanimous decision in the super featherweight division. However, he was stripped of his titles because he failed to make weight.
As such, Stevenson decided to move up to the lightweight division, as he faces the unbeaten Yoshino, who has never fought outside of Japan.
This will prove to be a stern test for Stevenson, as Yoshino has won his last three fights by knockout with a record of 16-0. In addition, the Japanese star has also questioned the Puerto Rican’s power.
Victory for both men could elevate them to become one of the biggest names out there, as fights with Gervonta Davis, Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia, to name a few, could beckon.
