Stipe Miocic Not Concerned With Jon Jones Ahead Of Francis Ngannou Rematch
Stipe Miocic isn’t worried about Jon Jones going into his second title fight with Francis Ngannou.
Miocic and Ngannou are scheduled to go one-on-one this Saturday night, March 27. Miocic’s UFC Heavyweight gold will be on the line. The title matchup will headline UFC 260 inside the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Back in January 2018, Miocic and Ngannou fought for the first time. Miocic defeated “The Predator” via unanimous decision to retain the gold.
There has been much talk about Jones’ move to the heavyweight division. “Bones” is expected to challenge the winner of Miocic vs. Ngannou 2.
MMAFighting.com‘s Damon Martin spoke to Miocic, who said his attention isn’t on Jones at the moment.
“Right now all I’m worried about is the fight coming up with Francis. That’s all I care about. I’m not going to worry about Jon Jones until I take care of business.
“No question [Jon Jones is a big fight for my legacy], definitely but all I’m worried about is Francis. That’s all I care about. The task at hand right now. He’s the only one.”
Jones has expressed confidence in his ability to defeat Miocic. He told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani that his skillset would be enough to dethrone the heavyweight king.
“I feel like I could totally beat him, just based on his performances with D.C., our speed differences, my fight IQ, my versatility, my faith, and confidence. I think I’m the guy to beat him for sure. And I want to strike while I’m feeling hot.”
