Stiverne To Step Aside for Wilder-Ortiz

WBC mandatory challenger Bermane Stiverne is reportedly close to an agreement with the WBC and WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder that will see Stiverne step aside to allow Wilder to defend his title against Luis Ortiz.

That bout is currently being targeted for Nov. 4 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The deal reportedly includes that Stiverne will compete in the undercard of the event, with the Wilder-Ortiz winner becoming obligated to defend against Stiverne in their next fight.

Stiverne lost the WBC title to Wilder in January 2015. Since then, Stiverne has had just one bout — a bout with Derric Rossy in November 2015, which Stiverne won via unanimous decision.

In a recent interview, Stiverne mentioned he plans to take on Dominic Breazeale in the event of a successful step-aside deal.
