Strickland Lashes Out At Costa Over Unsigned Contract

Sean Strickland has hit out at Paulo Costa after suggestions his opponent has not signed his end of the contract.

Reports indicated that the middleweight clash had been agreed for June 1 on the Islam Makhachev vs. Dustin Poirier card. Strickland is aiming to bounce back from his loss to Dricus Du Plessis in a split decision at UFC 297. That defeat ended his UFC Middleweight Title reign after winning the belt from Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 last year. Dana White felt Strickland had won, but the American never got the rematch.

Costa was then chosen. He lost his last fight against Robert Whittaker at UFC 298, a blow after beating Luke Rockhold at UFC 278. Costa was going to fight Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294, but he pulled out with an elbow infection, with Kamaru Usman stepping in.

Costa first said Strickland rejected the fight. Sean wanted more money, saying he was getting less than $200,000 to fight and less than $200,000 to win. While Strickland confirmed a verbal agreement was in place, it appears Costa still needs to sign.

“Goddamn, Costa. I’ve heard you’ve yet to sign that contract. I’ll tell you what, man. I didn’t f**king believe it. I did not think you’d react like a coward. I thought you would man up, sack up. Instead, you’re acting like you’ve got f**king ovaries. I went onto Google. I did the right things, gave you the benefit of the doubt. I went onto Google and I noticed something, man. After you fought Izzy (Israel Adesanya), you went down hill. You went on that f**king deep end, my man. I don’t know what f**king happened in that little f**king pea brain you have.

“Do we need to get someone for you to talk to, my man? Do we need to sit you down and have you talk about your f**king feelings? I think therapy is for weak men. Let me tell you something, dude. You’re being a weak f**king man. If you can’t sack up and make this s**t happen, we’ll get someone for you to talk to. Don’t disappoint me. Don’t disappoint the fans. Let me make you f**king bleed,” Strickland stated
