Successful Hand Surgery for Woodley

Tyron Woodley successfully underwent surgery on his right hand back on Tuesday in Pensacola, Florida, according to a report from ESPN’s Ariel Helwani.

Woodley tore three ligaments in his hand during his UFC 228 title defense against Darren Till last month. Woodley retained the title with a second-round submission victory.

Woodley says doctors told him a recovery period is expected to last around eight weeks.

Woodley underwent shoulder surgery last year, causing him to miss several months of action. The UFC set up an interim title bout at UFC 225 that saw Colby Covington top Rafael dos Anjos to win the title. Covington’s reign was shorter-lived, however, as the UFC stripped him after he couldn’t compete against Woodley last month due to injury.

Covington, however, is still No. 1 contender. The UFC is looking to book Woodley-Covington within the first three months of 2019.
