“Sugar” Shane Mosley let Ricardo Mayorga have it in the final round of their non-title middleweight fight – and not in a good way.
Mosley then 45-5, 38 KOs) knocked Mayorga (then 28-7-1, 22 KOs) out in the 12th round with a dramatic combination of punches.
Mosley captured multiple world championships in three weight classes including the IBF lightweight title, WBA (super) and WBC welterweight titles. In 1998, the Boxing Writers Association of America tapped Mosley as their Fighter of the Year; he would receive the same honor in 2000 from the International Boxing Hall of Game.
In 2000 and 2001, he was dubbed the world’s best active boxer by The Ring.
