Sumo Star Hakuho’s Father Passes Away

Tragedy struck for Mongolian Sumo Hakuho, as his father and Olympic medalist Mönkhbat, passed away at the age of 76.

Mönkhbat, a national hero in Mongolia passed away on April 9th after a long battle with liver cancer. While his son would fulfill an obligation for an event in the Nagano prefecture, he would travel to Mongolia for his father’s funeral on April 11th.

The wrestling star was so revered in Mongolia, he received a military escort during the funeral services.

Mönkhbat had been fighting the disease for sometime, and returned to Mongolia recently after his son flew him to Japan for medical treatment to ward off the cancer.
