Talks Are Underway For Oleksandr Usyk Vs. Daniel Dubois – Says Frank Warren
Frank Warren has announced that discussions are underway for a potential bout between Daniel Dubois and Oleksandr Usyk following the failure to secure an undisputed fight involving Tyson Fury.
The priority was to have a fight with Fury, but the negotiations fell through, which allowed Dubois to have a chance. Dubois gained his shot as a mandatory when he won the WBA ‘regular’ title by defeating Trevor Bryan.
The WBA, however, has asked for confirmation of Dubois’ fitness before proceeding, considering that he injured his knee in his last fight with Kevin Lerena.
While he managed to walk out victorious, the fact of the matter is that the Brit touched the canvas on three occasions, as his knee appeared to give way.
Having said that, though, it appears that Dubois and the WBA have managed to overcome that hurdle.
In his comments, Frank Warren said: “We’re on it, we’re negotiating it… He had a bad injury when he got caught in that first round on the top of the head [againt Lerena], but I think it’s a great fight for him.
“I’m gonna say it how it is with Usyk, I like Usyk, as a cruiserweight he was a tremendous fighter, he’s come up and beaten Anthony Joshua who I think was exposed badly against Andy Ruiz Jr.
“I fancy it, I think he can win the fight.”
