Negotiations are underway for a 2026 fight between WBA Interim Super Middleweight Champion Jose Armando Resendiz and Edgar Berlanga.
Resendiz is coming off the best win of his career, stopping former IBF Super Middleweight Champion Caleb Plant in May. That was his second win on the spin, having lost to Elija Garcia in September 2023. Meanwhile, Berlanga could secure a major fight, despite his poor run of form. Two defeats from his last three has seen his stock fall. Losses to Canelo Alvarez (September 2024) and Hamzah Sheeraz (July) came either side of his win against Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz (March). The fight could offer Berlanga the chance to secure another big purse, just like he had done against Canelo and Sheeraz.
“Edgar Berlanga and Jose Armando Resendiz are in talks for a super middleweight fight in the first quarter of 2026, sources told. Berlanga coming off KO loss to Hamzah Sheeraz while Resendiz on heels of upset win over Caleb Plant,” Mike CoppingerÂ
