Tank Davis Appears To Confirm Frank Martin Fight For June 22

Gervonta Davis has implied he will face Frank Martin on June 22 from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Tank will defend his WBA Lightweight Title after being elevated from his regular belt following Devin Haney’s decision to move up to 140. Davis’ last fight was a seventh-round TKO win against Ryan Garcia. Gervonta’s career stalled after he was arrested for violating his house arrest conditions related to a hit-and-run.

Davis served the rest of his 44-day house arrest in jail. Now, he is ready to face the undefeated Martin. The bout was meant to be on June 15. However, when a fan stated the venue was already booked for that weekend, Davis hinted he would be fighting the week after.

Martin, a southpaw, turned down a fight with Shakur Stevenson for the then-vacant WBC Lightweight Title to face Davis. He is coming off a unanimous decision win against Artem Harutyunyan. The fight was much closer than the decision, with Harutyunyan taking a knee in the final round, which swung the fight in Martin’s favor.

If Davis beats Martin, that is the ideal preparation for a Stevenson and Haney bout since they are slick boxers. The victory will allow Davis to unify against Stevenson. Shakur has the WBC belt at 135. Stevenson has one fight left on his Top Rank deal, as he is expected to face Harutyunyan on July 6. That has set the narrative for Shakur to sign with PBC for that fight. Alternatively, Davis could move up to 140 to secure a mega-fight with Haney.
