Tank Davis To Be Elevated To WBA World Champ Following Haney Vacating Title

Gervonta Davis will become the full WBA lightweight champion after the news that Devin Haney has vacated his belts at 135.

The news arrives as Haney prepares to face Regis Prograis at 140 for his WBC belt. The ‘Dream’ was in possession of the WBA, WBO and IBF belts after having recently become undisputed. As for the WBC title, it had been picked up by Shakur Stevenson after he beat Edwin De Los Santos to win the vacant belt as Haney was stripped for moving up to 140. But now that the belts are vacant, Davis will become the beneficiary.

Davis is the current WBA ‘regular’ champion, which will result in the organization elevating him to the status of a full champion. That would make Davis a two-weight world champion following his accomplishments at super-featherweight. Such a move may pave the way for Davis to take on Stevenson in a unification, given that both boxers would have a belt. As for the IBF belt, there is a possibility that George Kambosos Jr. and Vasiliy Lomachenko fight for it. Either way, Davis could have a big fight coming up.
