Gervonta Davis will not be fighting the big names in the lightweight division for now.
That is according to Leonard Ellerbe. Davis is currently preparing to make his comeback following his recent imprisonment for breaking the terms of his house arrest. Prior to that, he secured the biggest win of his career by stopping Ryan Garcia with a body shot in the seventh round. For his comeback, Calvin Ford stated that something big was being planned without giving too much away.

“Right now, something big is coming. I can tell you that. It’s quiet for a reason. They’re trying to seal the deal. It’s going to make the world turn,” Ford
And yet, a fight against Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney or Frank Martin won’t happen for now.
“I’m just saying that this building to becoming a superstar is a process; it’s a process, man. I’m telling you, it’s a process you don’t all of a sudden just go. Tank is selling out everywhere, and you guys are saying that he ain’t did this. People want to see, and it’s like they going to come. These fights [Shakur, Frank Martin & Haney], I think they will happen in time and I’m not going to put a timeframe, this is just my opinion,” Ellerbe
Another feasible option would be a rematch against Isaac Cruz. Ford did entertain the idea, while ‘Pitbull’ has made it no secret that he wants to run things back.
“I want the American fans to know me as well as the Mexican fans, so I have to go up against the very best. First, I want that rematch with Gervonta Davis no matter what. After that, I want to face Devin Haney and Vasyl Lomachenko,” Cruz
Outside of that, Frank Martin could be a viable opponent. The undefeated fighter chose not to fight Stevenson for the vacant WBC belt at lightweight. And since he and Tank are close with PBC, a fight could be made. In the meantime, Davis has revealed that he will not be fighting this year.
Those comments are understandable since Davis has had a tough period. Not only that, but Haney, Stevenson and Vasiliy Lomachenko are not available to fight this year. Stevenson and Haney will face Frank De La Santos and Regis Prograis, respectively. Meanwhile, Loma will also not fight this year, leaving Davis with a few options available. And by the looks of it, Tank has his plans worked out.
“I’m getting my personal life together. I’ll see y’all top of the year,” Davis
In reality, the fanbase wants to see Tank in the biggest fights. And there is no getting away from that.

Literally bigger than all of his other fights. Best you could argue is all but one.
