Taylor-Holm? UFC Star Mentioned for Title Shot
A month after a controversial decision win over Delfine Persoon to become the undisputed women’s lightweight champion, Katie Taylor is preparing for her return to the ring.
“I’m going back to America to train next week and my next fight will in October,” said Taylor to balls.ie.
Taylor was rumored to be taking on multiple division world champion, Amanda Serrano, but the New York based fighter has been at odds with her promoter, Lou DiBella.
“We fought her sister (Cindy) back in October. After that Eddie signed up to a three-fight deal and Amanda had one of those fights,” Taylor’s trainer Brian Peters said.
“She committed and then whatever has happened between Amanda and Lou (DiBella), I’m not sure. He certainly signed a contract. It will be sorted in due course but like everything you need the platform, the build-up, she has to get another fight. We have loads of other plans, journeys, routes to take. We’re certainly not stuck for options.”
Another option mentioned by Peters is UFC fighter, Holly Holm, who has held world titles in boxing, and may eye a return after a stoppage loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 239 on Saturday.
“I talked before [to her camp], I know her manager quite well. It was a bad defeat at the weekend. These talks, it can take ages, but when Mayweather and McGregor was first mentioned everyone laughed and thought it was impossible,” Peters said.
And on the subject of a rematch with Delfine Persoon, Taylor did say a rematch will “definitely happen,” but no word on when.
