Taylor Nearly Missed Weight Prior To WBSS Semi-Final

Josh Taylor went to the scale today and may have thrown the World Boxing Super Series into chaos as he missed weight on Friday in Glasgow.

Taylor is set to face Ivan Baranchyk on Saturday in the semi-finals of the WBSS, and while the undefeated Baranchyk made weight, Taylor would end up needing to strip completely down to make the super lightweight limit… in kilograms.

With the fight taking place in the United Kingdom, all weights were read in kilograms as opposed to pounds, which created confusion when Taylor made weight in kilograms, but was 0.2 pounds over the 140 pound limit.

Baranchyk would be 139.6 pounds when stepping to the scale, while Taylor, thinking he’d made weight, began to re-hydrate.

After the stare down between both champion and challenger, Taylor and his team were alerted of the discrepancy, and now had two hours to cut to 140 pounds.

As of post time, the fight for the IBF super lightweight title is still on for May 18th at the SSE Hydro, with a co-main event between Naoya Inoue and Emmanuel Rodriguez for Inoue’s WBA and Rodriguez’ IBF bantamweight titles, with the winner facing Regis Prograis in the finals.
