Taylor vs. Catterall Rematch Delayed Again: Taylor’s Injury Forces Postponement

Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall’s rematch for April 27 has been postponed.

The fight is now expected to happen on May 25 after Taylor suffered an eye injury in training. The boxer underwent a procedure last month, meaning he could not make the fight date. This is the second time the fight has been called off. Taylor won their only meeting in controversial circumstances, getting a split decision win over Catterall.

Most of the boxing community felt Catterall had been deprived of the chance to become the Undisputed Junior Welterweight Champion. A rematch was on course for February 2023, only for Taylor to suffer a foot injury. As he was recovering, the Scot chose to face Teofimo Lopez instead. Taylor suffered a unanimous decision defeat, losing his WBO Junior Welterweight Title in the process. But Taylor and Catterall still have plenty to prove.

“Today I should have been waking up with all of the belts. Boxing, shame on you. … Dreams stolen,” Catterall said

“It wasn’t my best performance, and I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself being heavy favorite and boxing back at home … but once I started catching him, I believe I got the win 100 percent. I know I won the fight; overall I scored the bigger shots and the more meaningful shots. He put up a good fight, but he never won the fight. Second half of the fight I took control,” Taylor revealed

Catterall has now been deprived of the chance to avenge his loss once again.
