Team Haney Rule Out A Deal With PBC For The Tank Davis Fight

Bill Haney has said his son, Devin Haney, won’t sign with PBC to make a Gervonta Davis fight.

Team Haney has been chasing that fight for some time, stating they were willing to box Tank after Devin’s win over Regis Prograis. The fight never happened, as Haney moved on to Ryan Garcia, whom he faces on April 20. Haney defends his WBC Junior Welterweight Belt with the aim of becoming undisputed.

Now, Davis must move up to 140 to make the fight. Tank takes on Frank Martin next, a boxer whose style is ideal preparation for Haney. Haney and Martin have a good defense and a slick boxing style. But promotional differences have so far prevented Haney from boxing Davis.

The Dream is a free agent, allowing him to move between networks. Devin has fought with DAZN, and ESPN, showing he is willing to crossover. Davis has stayed with PBC, but they are reluctant to co-promote. PBC worked with DAZN to make Davis vs. Garcia for a one-off show. Bill wanted the same, ruling out a deal with PBC for his son.

“You can see the fighter we’re fighting [Ryan Garcia] right now fought under Golden Boy fought a fight with them [PBC against Tank Davis]. So that kills that narrative. If Oscar [De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions] is the guy that you prefer to work with. Remember, there’s an opportunity for somebody to be the liaison to making the thing happen if we can’t. So, if the fight is on the table and they prefer to go through Oscar and they prefer to introduce us to Oscar, then what can we say? You don’t think Oscar would want to make the fight happen between Devin and Tank? We’ve been a free agent, and that hasn’t helped,” Bill Haney said

The difference between Haney and Garcia is their commercial power. Garcia has a huge crossover fanbase, while Haney’s boxing style does not resonate with the casuals. Haney’s last knockout was in 2019, making his style only appealing to boxing purists. Terence Crawford faced a similar problem before he signed with PBC to make the Errol Spence Jr. fight. Haney may have to do the same if he wants the Tank fight.
