Team USA Records Early Wins In 2021 Elite Men’s World Championships
Team USA has got off to a flying start in the 2021 Elite Men’s World Championships.
Jahmal Harvey, who was the first US boxer to enter the ring, showed a remarkable turnaround in his fight against Belgium’s Vasile Usturoi.
Despite being down on points in the opening round, including a clean shot that caused him to slip, he made up for it in the next two rounds. He outscored his opponent on four out of the five judges’ cards in both rounds to secure the 4-1 victory.
Harvey will next face reigning World Champion Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov of Uzbekistan.
As for welterweight Omari Jones, he did not have to break a sweat to proceed into the next stage of the competition. Jones was awarded a walkover after his opponent did not show up for the bout.
Jones will next take on Scotland’s Tyler Jolly.
Team USA star Roscoe Hill has been scheduled to box tomorrow. He will feature against Mario Lavegar Cepeda of the Dominican Republic.
Over 500 boxers from 80 countries are competing in this year’s Elite Men’s World Championships.
