Teddy Atlas Reacts To Edgar Berlanga’s Bite
Teddy Atlas thinks that things were not going to plan for Edgar Berlanga (20-0, 16 KOs), and he was looking for a way out when he decided to bite Alexis Angulo (27-3, 23 KOs) on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Atlas believes that Berlanga’s promoters didn’t do the right thing when they matched him with 16 “doormen” during the start of his career. This strategy allowed him to look like a monster while making money.
Unfortunately for him, the unbeaten super middleweight has hardly looked like a monster in his last four fights after his management threw him in fights against better opposition.
Berlanga had defeated Angulo through a 10-round unanimous decision in a fight shown on ESPN. However, the fight itself appeared to much closer than the scores [98-92, 99-91, and 99-91] given by the judges.
“Berlanga is not mature enough, he’s not tough enough, and he showed weakness. He’s not ready, he’s not the monster,” Atlas stated on The Fight podcast.
“Yeah, he was 16-0 with 16 knockouts [to start Berlanga’s career]. They got him 16 doormen. Some doormen are tough. I don’t want to insult doormen. Angulo is 38 years old, and he’s been stopped once by Benavidez,”
