Teofimo Lopez And His Father Weigh In On Vasiliy Lomachenko’s Win Over Jamaine Ortiz
Vasiliy Lomachenko was put to the test and was able to pull out a win on Saturday.
Former unified lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko was given a run for his money, but he managed to grab a victory via unanimous decision against Jamaine Ortiz on Saturday night.
The Ukrainian star earned scores of 115-113, 116-112, and 117-111 in his favour at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.
This was Lomachenko’s first fight since December. He appeared too strong against his younger challenger, but there are a few nervy moments in the contest where it seemed like the spirit of Ortiz may earn him a win.

Lomachenko’s next potential opponent, Devin Haney, wasn’t much impressed with the winner’s performance though.
“I think it wasn’t the best performance, but I know that if I and Loma were to fight, a better version would be on (display) that night. Hopefully, we could get it on,” Haney said as he joined the fighters in the ring following the bout.
Lomachenko retorted: “I’ll be ready.”
Ortiz started well. He was switching stances and not letting the opponent get the better of him. However, Lomachenko relied on his experience later and began picking up points in the middle rounds.
In the final rounds, Lomachenko picked up the pace and gathered enough points to outscore Ortiz.
Ortiz was seen switching stances against Lomachenko, just like Teofimo Lopez Sr had seemingly guided him to.
Before the showdown, a video went viral on YouTube where Lopez Sr was seen giving tips to Ortiz. His son and former world champ Lopez Jr. beat Lomachenko when the two last met inside the ring.
But after the fight, Lopez Sr said that he thinks Lomachenko deserved the win.
“I think Lomachenko dominated the entire fight. He may have lost a few rounds, but not many. I think the unanimous decision of the judges was good,” he said.
Also after the fight, Lopez Jr told FIGHT SPORTS that he thinks the scorecards should have been closer.
