Teofimo Lopez will leave the 140-lb division in favor of the 147 weight class following a unanimous decision loss to Shakur Stevenson last month.
In the wake of the Stevenson loss, many in the boxing world called for a shake-up in Lopez’s corner. However, “The Takeover” has confirmed he is staying the course, retaining his father, Teofimo Lopez Sr., as his head trainer. Under his father, Lopez upset Vasiliy Lomachenko to become the unified lightweight champ in 2020. Together, they conquered Josh Taylor to claim the WBO and Ring Magazine titles. The pressure is now on team Lopez to bounce back. However, a move up to 147 offers Lopez the chance to become a three-weight world champion.
