Teofimo Lopez Calls Out Ryan Garcia – ‘It Can Be A Catchweight’

Teofimo Lopez has called for a fight with Ryan Garcia as he is willing to take a catchweight bout.

Garcia is coming off his best performance, sending Devin Haney to the canvas three times to secure a majority decision win. Garcia’s stardom increased, becoming the new face of boxing. King Ry’s presence of X is now nearly 1 million. His Instagram followers are approximately 12 million, increasing by over a million since the fight.

That makes Garcia the A-side, allowing him to call the shots. He failed to make the 140-pound limit for the Haney fight, coming in 3.2 pounds over. Garcia said he can no longer make junior welterweight, making his next fight at a catchweight, 147 or 154. Lopez was open to boxing Ryan, provided there is a suitable catchweight.

“I talked to Top Rank about how I wanted this to be planned out. We said something to Ryan [Garcia] and his team that we can do something in September or December. It doesn’t have to be at my weight class [140]. It can be a catchweight. So that way we don’t have to have any problems moving forward,” Lopez said

Lopez must get past his next opponent. He is expected to face Steve Claggett in June. Reports indicate an agreement is close, subject to an official announcement. The Takeover is coming off a controversial victory against Jamaine Ortiz after suggestions Lopez was outboxed. Claggett is not a big name, showing Lopez’s commercial power is much less than Garcia even if he is the WBO Junior Welterweight Champion. If Lopez accepts he is the B-side and makes enough concessions, a fight could be made.
