Teofimo Lopez Continues To Pester Devin Haney On WBC Status
Teofimo Lopez still dismisses Devin Haney’s WBC Lightweight Title.
Lopez is recognized as the WBC (Franchise) Champion. He also has the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring Titles. Despite the fact that Haney holds the regular WBC gold, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman has called Lopez the undisputed lightweight champion.
Lopez, who has been feuding with Haney, appeared on SiriusXM and DAZN’s The Ak & Barak Show to claim that “The Dream” doesn’t lay claim to a real world title (h/t Bad Left Hook).
“This is what’s going on, this is the ‘franchise’ and the ‘regular’ (belt). And if they don’t believe it, I got a certificate for it, baby. Signed and sealed, you heard, by the man himself, Mauricio Sulaiman. I am the undisputed lightweight world champion.
“Yo, Devin. What up with you, man? What up with you?! That email, I should put a stamp on that shit. What you got? You a Yahoo! champion, Gmail champion? Which champion you is?”
Lopez is expected to do battle with mandatory title challenger George Kambosos this spring. “The Takeover” was gunning for a showdown with Haney but he said he would’ve had to relinquish his IBF gold if he didn’t face Kambosos next.
As for Haney, he’s been hoping to fight either Lopez or interim WBC titleholder Ryan Garcia. If he can’t get either of those fights, then Haney plans to turn his attention to Javier Fortuna.
