Teofimo Lopez could make a return to the boxing ring at the back end of the year.
That is according to Top Rank’s Bob Arum. Following Lopez’s victory over Josh Taylor to win the WBO junior welterweight belt, the ‘Takeover’ announced his decision to retire only to then backtrack on those comments.
Lopez had indicated that he would only return to the sport if he was given a nine-figure payday. That just went on to show Lopez’s desire to secure the biggest fights out there.
Therefore, Arum suggested that he could face either Jose Ramirez or Arnold Barboza Jr. The former is ranked number two in the WBO rankings, while the latter is the top contender.
With that being said, a fight could be announced soon.
“I talked to Teofimo. He’s gotta get his head into it. We want him to definitely to fight this year, maybe on Heisman night. And the logical opponents would be either Ramirez or Barboza and we’ll see which one makes the most sense” Arum stated
Nevertheless, a unification with Regis Prograis or a super fight with Ryan Garcia would have gotten the fans more on board.
However, if Lopez continues to impress, then those fights will no doubt be in the pipeline moving forward.
