Teofimo Lopez: Floyd Mayweather Is Ruining His Legacy

Teofimo Lopez believes Floyd Mayweather is tarnishing his reputation by taking exhibition fights with Internet stars and entertaining a clash with rapper 50 Cent.

Mayweather is a boxing Hall of Fame elect. He ended his career with a perfect record of 50-0. Mayweather captured world titles in multiple weight classes along the way. Despite his status among boxing’s elite, Lopez believes Mayweather is tarnishing everything he’s worked for.

Mayweather is expected to do battle with YouTube celebrity Logan Paul sometime this year. The two were initially set to share the ring on February 20 but the date has been pushed back. On top of that, Mayweather has also expressed his willingness to fight his former friend 50 Cent at any weight class.

During an appearance on SiriusXM and DAZN’s The Ak & Barak Show, Lopez said he believes Mayweather’s legacy is taking a hit.

“Floyd, man. You’re ruining your legacy, my bro. It’s a damn shame to see it all happen like that. I love Floyd, man. I looked up to him. My idol turned into my rival but I love him. He did a huge thing.”

When asked about calling Mayweather an “idol turned rival,” Lopez explained why.

“Yeah cause he can’t even acknowledge my name. It’s all good, it’s all love.”

In the past, Lopez has blamed Mayweather for not getting an opportunity to take on Gervonta Davis. “The Takeover” claims Mayweather, who co-promotes “Tank” was asked about the fight and he passed on it. Lopez feels Mayweather is protecting his top fighter.
