Teofimo Lopez Focused On Beating Steve Claggett

Teofimo Lopez is fully focused on beating Steve Claggett.

Lopez WBO’s title is on the line in the 140-pound division. After picking up the belt against Josh Taylor, he defended it successfully against Jamaine Ortiz. Despite getting the win, some felt Ortiz had outboxed him. The performance damaged Lopez’s claim to get the big fights against Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, and Subriel Matias.

Claggett is a lesser-known name. His record is 38-7-2. But he has won nine fights in a row. His last seven wins were inside the distance. Lopez, however, is the biggest test of his career. Claggert’s toughest opponent so far has been Chris van Heerden on paper. Van Heerden is a former welterweight contender who lost out to former Unified Welterweight Champion Errol Spence Jr. Although Lopez is the favorite, he recognizes that he must turn up.

“I’m looking forward to a great match-up. We have the best matchmakers in the world. They know what they see and what’s going to come on June 29th. Steve Claggett is a high guard and come-forward pressure fighter. The guy doesn’t stop throwing punches, coming forward, and the guy doesn’t take breaks. These guys are not easy fighters at all. It’s not easy. They’re tough, tough, difficult fighters..Having that championship mentality, I believe I’m going to win with flying colors,” Lopez said
