Teofimo Lopez On Devin Haney: ‘That Kid’s Pissing Me Off’
Teofimo Lopez has a problem with Devin Haney.
Lopez was in attendance for Canelo Alvarez vs. Callum Smith inside the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The event was being promoted by Matchroom Boxing. The promotion’s head honcho Eddie Hearn was in attendance. Lopez’s father suggested to Hearn that he makes a $10 million offer for his son to take on Devin Haney. Hearn said he’d like to make that fight happen as Lopez is the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, The Ring, and WBC (Franchise) Lightweight Champion. Haney holds the standard WBC gold.
Lopez appeared on SiriusXM Radio and DAZN Boxing’s The Ak & Barak Show. During his appearance, “The Takeover” made it clear he isn’t chummy with Haney.
“I’ve been thinking about it, yeah. Imma be honest man, that kid’s pissing me off. Like a lot, like a lot.”
When asked why Lopez has developed a beef with Haney, he responded with the following.
“He’s like a f*cking mosquito that just keeps coming and I’m just trying to swat it out. Cause he’s nonstop yapping his mouth but you haven’t really done much to be even talking like that. Like talking so much, you know what I mean? At least like for ‘Tank,’ he could talk cause he got pop. That’s gonna hold him always. My man’s is like just cause he’s trying to look pretty in a fight don’t mean you could talk that [trash] like that.”
Lopez went on to say that he’s been giving Haney a chance to prove he can be a decent draw. “The Takeover” said if Haney can build his resume with more impressive wins, then it would build anticipation for their matchup down the line. Instead, Lopez feels Haney is dropping the ball.
In his last outing, Lopez shocked the world when he defeated Vasiliy Lomachenko via unanimous decision. Haney’s last bout ended in a unanimous decision victory over Yuriorkis Gamboa.
