Teofimo Lopez On Not Giving Lomachenko A Rematch: Everybody Was Being A D*ck To Me & My Father
Teofimo Lopez is taking the “what goes around comes around” approach with Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Back in October 2020, Lopez took on Vasiliy Lomachenko in a title unification bout. Lopez was the IBF Lightweight Champion going into the bout. Lomachenko held the WBA (Super), WBO, The Ring, and WBC (Franchise) Titles. Lopez pulled off the upset win via unanimous decision.
During an interview with Fight Hub TV, “The Takeover” said that Lomachenko is getting his comeuppance for what he believes to have been disrespect towards him and his father from “Loma’s” team (h/t BoxingScene.com).
“Because I’mma be a d-ck. Because everybody (Team Lomachenko) was being a d-ck to me, my father.”
Lopez also reminded folks that there was no rematch clause for his clash against Lomachenko.
“He didn’t want to put a rematch clause in our contract. There are lots of other things that I can get real dirty into but I’m not. I’m gonna look the other way. I’m looking for bigger and better things.”
Lopez is targeting WBC Lightweight Champion Devin Haney. With that said, “The Takeover” also knows he has a mandatory challenger in George Kambosos. Many believe if Lopez stays on track, he’ll be in for big money fights against the likes of Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis. “The Takeover” has made it clear that he feels he’s the A-side in the lightweight division.
As for Lomachenko, he’s recovering from shoulder surgery. His manager has said that a spring return could be on the horizon.
