Teofimo Lopez Plans To Deliver ‘Knockout Of The Year’ Against Vasiliy Lomachenko
Teofimo Lopez is looking to score a knockout win over Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Lopez is the IBF Lightweight Champion, while Lomachenko is the WBA (Super) and WBO titleholder. In the buildup to this title unification bout, Lopez has used his gift of gab in an attempt to get under Lomachenko’s skin as well as bring attention to the bout. One thing appears abundantly clear, Lopez isn’t lacking confidence.
During an interview with ESPN Deportes, Lopez said that he will be gunning for a spectacular knockout finish over Lomachenko (via BoxingScene.com).
“A lot of people want to see this fight and say it’s the fight of the year. I am very proud of that because Teofimo fighting with another boxer like Vasiliy Lomachenko is going to be a good fight. We are preparing for twelve rounds, but God willing, if we can catch him, we will try to finish the fight right there.
“It’s going to be a tough fight for him. I am young, he is 32 or 33 years old, and not only that, I am very big at this weight. I feel like lightweight is too big for him, he does better at 130 or 126 [pounds]. We’re going to make the fight and [win] by knockout. A lot of people say it’s the fight of the year and I feel like we’re going to deliver the knockout of the year.”
Lomachenko vs. Lopez will take place inside the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. There will be up to 250 people in attendance for the event, with most of the attendees being first responders. The event will air live on the major ESPN network on October 17 as well as FIGHT SPORTS in over 50 countries worldwide.
