Teofimo Lopez Reacts To Being The Underdog Against Vasiliy Lomachenko
Teofimo Lopez is embracing his role as the underdog going into his bout with Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Lopez and Lomachenko are scheduled to collide in the main event of a Top Rank Boxing card on October 17. Lopez will be putting his IBF Lightweight Championship on the line, while Lomachenko’s WBA (Super) and WBO Titles will also be at stake.
Going into the title unification fight, Lopez is the betting underdog. According to Bovada, Lopez is a +260 underdog with Lomachenko being the -340 favorite. Appearing on The Ak And Barak Show, Lopez explained why the role of underdog doesn’t bother him (h/t BoxingScene.com).
“Nah. Hell, no! Actually, I want the odds to be more in his favor. That way, I can bet on myself and make some more money on the side. You know what I mean? But, you know, I think by the end of the night, once we get into after the weigh-ins and everything, I think this fight might end up becoming 50-50. You know what I mean? So, if you wanna make some money off of Teofimo, place your bets now.”
Lopez last competed back on December 14, 2019. He defeated Richard Commey via second-round TKO to capture the IBF gold. The victory improved Lopez’s pro boxing record to 15-0. It was also Lopez’s 12th win by way of knockout.
Lomachenko has been on a 13-fight winning streak. He hasn’t suffered a loss since March 2014. That was just Lomachenko’s second pro boxing match and it was a split decision defeat to Orlando Salido.
